Maricruz Peñaloza ist im Süden Mexikos geboren und aufgewachsen,  lebt und arbeitet in Zürich.

Sie hat Bildende Kunst mit Fokus auf Performance Art sowie Fotografie an der  F+F Kunst und Design Zürich und Politikwissenschaften an der Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-I (UAM-I) in  Mexiko City studiert.

Sie ist Künstlerin und Kuratorin für Performance-Festivals und Veranstaltungen auf internationaler Ebene. Sie hat an zahlreiche Ausstellungen und Performance Festivals im In- und Ausland teilgenommen.  Sie hat auch zahlreiche Performance- und Kunst Events ebenfalls im In- und Ausland kuratiert, organisiert und mitorganisiert.

Sie ist Gründerin und künstlerische Leiterin der PERFORMANCE REIHE NEU-OERLIKON, in Zürich, und des Performance Open-Air St. Gallen, in St. Gallen, beide Festivals finden im öffentlichen Raum statt.

Herausgeberin von substanz. performance art issues. Fanzines zu Interviews, Performances und alles rund um Performance Art.

Sie schreibt gerne und schreibt selber all die Texte, die sie in ihren Performances vorliest aber auch andere Geschichten.

”In meinen früheren Arbeiten beschäftigte ich mich mit dem Thema des Pendels. Das heisst, ich setzte mich mit den Fragen der Bewegung in einer Spaltung zwischen Welten, Kulturen, Zeiten, Räume, Gegenwart, Vergangenheit auseinander. 

Heute -im Fokus meiner Arbeit stehen immer noch- Überlegungen zum theoretischen Aspekt wie Identität, Kommunikation, Körperpräsenz und Text, sowie -und seit langem- beschäftige ich mich sowohl mit dem öffentlichen Raum als politischer Plattform für das, in einer Gemeinschaft geschieht als auch mit Migrationsfragen, insbesondere derjenigen der Frauen die aus Zentral America nach Mexiko über die Grenze im Süden Mexikos kommen. All dies vermischt mit einer Kritik an den verschiedenen Arten von Gewalt – Ich arbeite und bewege mich in einem binären System: Privatheit und Öffentlichkeit”. Maricruz Peñaloza.

Maricruz Peñaloza was born and raised in the South of Mexico, she lives and works in Zurich.

She studied fine arts and photography at F+F Art and Design Zurich and political science at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-I (UAM-I) in Mexico City.

She is an artist and curator for performance festivals and international events. She has participated in numerous exhibitions and performance festivals at national and international level.  She has also curated, organized and co-organized numerous performance and art events in Switzerland and abroad.

She is founder and artistic director of the PERFORMANCE REIHE NEU-OERLIKON, in Zurich, and the Performance Open-Air St. Gallen, in St. Gallen, both festivals take place in public space; she is board member of PANCH (Performance Art Network CH) since 2019.

Editor of substanz. performance art issues. Fanzines dedicated to to the publication of texts, interviews, performances and everything related to performance art.

She likes to write and writes all the texts herself that she reads out in her performances but also some other stories.

“In my earlier works I dealt with the theme of the oscillation. That is, I dealt with the questions of movement in a split between worlds, cultures, times, spaces, present, past. 

“Today, my work continues to focus on theoretical aspects such as identity, communication, body presence and text, as well as -and for a long time now- on public space as a political platform for what happens in a community, as well as on migration issues, especially those of women coming from Central America to Mexico across the border in southern Mexico. All this mixed with a critique of the different types of violence – I work and move in a dichotomy: private and public.” Maricruz Peñaloza
